How to Resize Your Divi Images in WordPress

Divi and Image Sizing — What You Need to Know

Divi is a visual page builder that makes it easy to drop images into rows, columns, and modules. But image optimisation is handled entirely by WordPress and your server — not Divi itself. This means the same oversized original that slows any WordPress site will slow a Divi site too.

The good news is that a dedicated image plugin sits cleanly alongside Divi without interfering with the builder. Divi Image Compressor processes images server-side at upload time, so by the time an image appears in Divi's media picker it is already the right size and format.

Setting a Maximum Size for All Divi Image Uploads

In Divi websites, full-width section backgrounds rarely need to exceed 2,400 px wide. Module images, gallery items, and blog thumbnails are almost always displayed much smaller. In Divi Image Compressor, go to Compression Settings and enter values for Max Width and Max Height. From that point every upload — through the Divi builder, the media library, or WooCommerce — is automatically scaled if it exceeds those dimensions.

Using the Quality Slider

The quality slider runs from 1 to 100. The default is 80, which typically reduces a JPEG to 20–40% of its original file size with no perceptible quality loss at screen resolution. Quick Presets are available below the slider: Aggressive (quality 60, WebP), Balanced (quality 80, WebP), High Quality (quality 90, compress only), and Lossless PNG (quality 95, compress only).

Resizing Existing Divi Images in Bulk

If you have been building your Divi site for a while, your media library likely already contains oversized images. The Bulk Compress tab lets you run a resize and compression pass across all of them. The operation runs in batches and will not time out your server. Back up your uploads folder before running a bulk operation — the changes are permanent.

Hard-Cropping Images to Exact Sizes for Divi Modules

Divi modules often look best with images at specific aspect ratios. The Blog module featured image needs a consistent ratio across all posts to avoid uneven card heights. The Smart Crop & Compress tab lets you specify exact dimensions and uses a drag-to-position focal point so the important part of each photo is never accidentally cropped out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Divi Maintenance Mode is available on the Divi Marketplace. If you are already running version 1.0.0, update through the WordPress dashboard — your settings will carry over automatically.

Does Divi Image Compressor conflict with Divi's built-in image handling?

No. All processing happens server-side before the image is registered in the media library. Divi simply picks up the already-optimised file — the builder and frontend are completely unaffected.

Do I need to do anything in Divi after resizing images?

No. Existing Divi pages and posts automatically serve the updated image. If you cropped to new dimensions, WordPress regenerates all thumbnail sizes automatically.

What quality setting should I use for Divi hero images?

Quality 80 is recommended for most hero images. If you are a photographer or have a portfolio site where pixel-perfect quality is important, consider quality 85–90.

Will the plugin work with Divi's Global Presets and Theme Builder?

Yes. The plugin processes images at the WordPress media layer. It has no interaction with Divi's Global Presets, Theme Builder, or any other Divi-specific features.

Does Divi Image Compressor support Divi 5?

Yes. The plugin is compatible with both Divi 4 and Divi 5, and has been tested with WordPress up to version 6.8.
